You should celebrate Plugin Developer Day by thanking the people who made your favorite browser add-ons possible.

The way I see it, there are three main types of add-ons:

  • Extensions – These are usually more complex than other types of plugins and offer additional functionality, like a full screen video player or advanced search options for YouTube;
  • Lightsabers – These are a lot like extensions except that they don’t offer any sort of extra features; instead, they just change how your site looks (like turning Facebook into The Matrix); and finally…
  • Plugins – These are very simple pieces of software that act as an add-on to a web browser by adding another functionality (like automatic spell checking), additional content (like recipes from AllRecipes), or even just shortcuts (like Google Search).

So go ahead, celebrate this day in any way you want, but be sure to thank the people who made your favorite browser add-ons possible.
