International Customs Day is celebrated on January 26th by customs services around the world.

The day commemorates the signing of the United Nations Convention on International Trade Law in 1964.

This day was also chosen to commemorate Sir Robert Bruce Lockhart, a British politician and colonial administrator who was instrumental in founding the International Customs Organization in 1952.

The purpose of International Customs Day is to celebrate the role of customs officials around the world in keeping borders safe and preventing smuggling and other forms of transnational crime. In addition, it serves as a reminder that these men and women are often underpaid and overworked in their efforts to protect our communities from illegal goods entering their countries.
