Family Literacy Day, a national initiative that encourages families to participate in literacy-related activities, will be celebrated on January 27th.

Family Literacy Day was established by the National Center for Family Literacy to promote family literacy across the United States. The day is held annually in January and promotes the need for parents to read with their children and engage in other literacy-related activities together.

The goal of Family Literacy Day is to encourage families to make reading a priority by developing lifelong skills and providing children with positive experiences with books and reading materials. Families can participate by reading together, taking part in literacy-related activities such as attending story time at the library or museum, or visiting local bookstores or libraries together.

Family Literacy Day has been celebrated since 2003 by various organizations across the country including libraries, schools and museums. The United States Department of Education also supports this initiative by encouraging parents and caregivers to participate in events throughout the month of January each year.
